‘Natural Capital’ is Unnatural for Capital
As a concept, ‘Natural Capital’ is contrary to what environmentalists have been trying to achieve for decades, and it is also contrary to the nature of capital. What is natural for capitalism is maximum profits, not minimum damage.
Rebel Songs ~ The Power of Music
Isn’t this the power of music? To make us feel, to inspire?
Sometimes that music is beautiful, just like the singing of the birds or the wind through the treetops. Perhaps the music of the woods is my favourite. Standing there on that soft moss covered floor with warm, dappled sunlight on my skin with eyes closed, listening to the birdsong and the wind through the boughs is the most perfect feeling. Other times the music is louder, rougher, not unlike the wind atop of a high hill. Wild and invigorating. Both make you feel alive, albeit in very different ways.

The Night Wanderer
“This poem is a variation on the story of True Thomas or Thomas the Rhymer, a Scottish poet who was said to have been given the gift of prophecy after a tryst with the Queen of Elphame. In this updated version of the story, Thomas is not a medieval Scottish poet but a modern man, lying in bed unable to sleep as he broods about the past.”
Ukraine: “Surrendering is not an option”
The terror and urgency of this global paradigm of democracy and the struggle for freedom is that it threatens the survival of vulnerable people.
The Bonds That Bind Us
Ever present in all of these memories, the glorious backdrop to childhood adventures, is nature. Every memory recalled is linked to the land it occurred in and on, land that has now, in many places, changed beyond all recognition, but still as I pass by, there is still that feeling, that aura, that sense of spirit that persists.
The bonds that bind us to one another may change and vary but they are there. In times of need, it is these bonds that serve us best, that can form the basis of community in the truest sense of the word.
A Sweet Treat for the Equinox...
But it is the violets that are perhaps my favourite of the spring time plants.
They start in the corner of my garden beneath the boughs of the mature linden tree and spread across the lawn, their purple flowers like jewels in a sea of green. Violet honey is one of my favourite things to make, though only in small batches because I just can’t bring myself to pick too many of the beautiful blooms!

The Ultra Wealthy Dream of Fintech Unicorns
To be at the “Forefront of Financial Inclusion” is to properly remunerate workers, and to provide every citizen with basic health needs and education — not to provide modern ways for poor people to feel broke and inadequate.
Receipt for Distracting Biden to Release Peltier
The egregore of capital knows it needs the native body to dominate the land of which indigenous peoples are an intricate expression. However, the egregore knows its survival is at risk too — it fears the wooden stake of the peasant class.
Black Sun Rising: On Witch Wars and Real Wars
Man has created some terrifying truths, the worst of which is not war itself, but our justifications for war.
The River Mumma
The River Mumma is a fierce protectress and mother, a beautiful woman but also something other, frightening, perhaps to some, even monstrous. We see these aspects of the female in other figures from legend and lore like Medusa, Babalon and more. Like I often say, folk stories always contain hints of truths at their core, like the single speck of grit at the centre of a pearl.
NATO, Russia, War and Empires
“In a war of empire vs empire, there are no “good guys.” Does that mean the people of Ukraine deserve to be invaded and occupied? No.”
What does Justice mean in the case of the lynching of a Congolese man in Brazil?
Is the arrest of the men who tied another man down to beat him to death what Justice looks like?
Recipes For Remembering ~ Food & Culture
Food connects me to my family, to my ancestors, to a land distant but important nonetheless. This is what is meant by soul food, the food we share with those we love. Memories made without even trying. The every day made magic. Spanning cultures and times.
