Art, Resistance, Magic ~ Remedios Varo
The art of Remedios Varo does indeed show the dream world and the real world are the same, combining technical drawing and surrealism in a way that brings the dreamworld into the realm of the everyday, hinting at the magical nature of the world. Using contrasts in colour and texture, Varo captures the essence of the ‘other’. My favourite piece, if I had to choose just one, is called Star Maker.
On Plants
Yellows, purples and deep blues flit by, easily missed by most, or seen and unseen, scenery and nothing more. The beauty of the wildflowers, their existence forgotten if noticed at all and all before they’ve disappeared from view. All of this glimpsed as I stare out the window, seeking something other than the endless roads stretching ahead lined with traffic spewing fumes, the endless grey of industry and business.
Occult Features of Anarchism by Erica Lagalisse: A Review
“Much of the European revolutionary tradition traces itself back to the 18th century, including the first stirrings of anarchist philosophy as we now know it. Much of the neopagan and occult tradition as we now know it traces back to the same era, and not at all coincidentally as author Erica Lagalisse demonstrates...” A review of Occult Features of Anarchism: With Attention to the Conspiracy of Kings and the Conspiracy of the Peoples.
