Disposable
Are human bodies disposable? Do you use them and then throw them away? Do bodies lying on the ground covered in blood cause as much damage as the plastic thrown into the ocean? If this is the problem; how many must die for the problem to be solved? Do blacks naturally have a short life span?
The work presented appropriates the “disposable” material to create a metaphorical critique of most of the deaths that occurred in the Brazilian territory, deaths that are entirely linked to a social, political, historical and economic problems. Here, the object that is widely used at parties to serve some food to the public, opposes the way in which the murdered body is exposed, in the open air, visible to all people of all ages, as if it were something worth seeing.
The scenario that remains in the urban area after the loss of a life is usually of a circle of people, some acquaintances crying, others taking pictures, this call for attention and that tense look directed downwards becomes something almost common, which, hence, questions human nature. Is life to be served that way?
The installation that took place at Galeria Cañizares, of the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Bahia, was composed of about 40 of the dishes. Currently, the work houses 100 dishes where murdered black bodies are painted, showing the concern with the extermination of black people, in a time which the destruction of the Earth is discussed through the disposal of plastic.
