A BEAUTIFUL RESISTANCE, 5: AFTER EMPIRE
Gods&Radicals Press is pleased to announce this call for submissions for the fifth issue of our print journal, A Beautiful Resistance
A Beautiful Resistance, 5: After Empire is a collective dreaming, a ritual of imaginal sabotage. It’s a guerrilla act of occult gardening, seeds sown under cover of darkness into the collapsing ruins of this world to make beautiful what will come.
For this issue, we are soliciting poetry, prose, essay, fiction, ritual, photography, and art which whispers, chants, or screams of what humanity has always been—and can be again –without the delusions of tyrants, their cults of despair, and their rape of the earth.
Towards this end, we’re particularly eager to see works which play with the following subjects:
topics of resilience and community self-sufficiency
essays on pre-capitalist and post-capitalist ways of being in the world and with each other
magical and mundane analyses of climate change and the Anthropocene
explorations of the relationship gods, spirits, and ancestors have with humans in times of social and political change
imaginings of new and new-old kinds of politics, technologies, and ways of organizing
meditations on rebirth, salvage, return, reworking, and reclamation.
images which invoke any of the above, or which reveal obscured hope in times of despair.
Other submissions are absolutely welcome.
Deadline:
All submissions must be received by 1 December, 2019. Early submissions are always appreciated.
Publication Date:
A Beautiful Resistance, 5: After Empire is scheduled for publication [TBA].
Payment:
Gods&Radicals Press will pay for previously-unpublished works we include in the journal. Payment is based on sales during a six-month royalty period, with a minimum payment of $40 US.
Rights:
Gods&Radicals Press requests “first publication rights” for all included works. Simply put, this gives us the right to publish your work in print and digital form as part of the journal and to be the first ones to do so. You maintain ownership of your work and may do with it as you wish (including publishing it elsewhere).
Submission Process (please read carefully):

Text submissions should be sent as .odt or .docx files (not .pdf) with the following information listed on the first page of the document:
Your name
The status of the work (whether it has appeared elsewhere)
The best email address by which to reach you.
A short (25 word maximum) author bio.
Please note—there are no word-count requirements, but please avoid sending us novellas or haikus.
IMAGES
Photos and images can be color or black-and-white and must be of very high quality, with a minimum dpi of 300. If you are unfamiliar with print-sizes and dpi, a good rule of thumb is that if your file size is under 1 mb, it’s probably too low-quality for us to use.
Image files should be sent as attachments to emails along with a text document (.odt or .docx) which includes the following information:
Your name
Title of the image (if any)
A short description of the image
Its publication status (has it appeared elsewhere? If so, where?)
A brief bio (25 words maximum).
